Flower pressing workshop with Jocelyn West

20th August 2022 10:00am

Kirkgate Theatre

Category: Join In

Flower pressing has been practised for hundreds of years but became particularly popular in Victorian times. One of the precious objects in the Kirkgate Heritage group’s collection is a book of pressed flowers produced by a local woman, Alice Marion Hartley between 1885 and 1889.

Join me to learn about this activity which still has relevance today, being a gentle, mindful and inexpensive hobby with low environmental impact. I will demonstrate the techniques for pressing flowers and how to use these to make beautiful cards and pictures. You will be able to produce your own projects to take home using existing pressed flowers. All equipment and materials will be supplied though you may wish to bring along an old book suitable pressing flowers between the leaves.

Recommended age: adults and accompanied children 10+
