Kirkgate Centre

Category: Music

Singer songwriter and guitar player How Askew blends rootsy folk, blues and Americanain songs about love, loss and moving on down the line. Originally from West Cumbria, he lived for many years in Newcastle before hitting the road in a campervan – travelling, singing and playing around Europe and the UK for over three years. Now based in Dumfries and Galloway, writing, recording and performing around the region. He last played the Kirkgate opening for US songwriter Jesse terry, and can't wait to return with his own show and a new band.

Kurlew are a 6 piece band with an upbeat folky country sound – lots of harmonies and infectious energy. Newly formed in 2024, they were well received at the Kirkcudbright Fringe and Moniaive Bluegrass Picking Festivals and ended the year with a sold out show in Dumfries. Their first single, Quite The Catch, is out now on all the usual platforms. With a growing following and more original music on the way, 2025 is looking really exciting.
