Cockermouth’s Kirkgate Centre is gearing up for an even bigger and better programme of crafts events in 2025.
In total, 16 crafts workshops are planned this year, a marked increase compared with previous years. The series gets underway on Saturday, March 29 (10am) when Roxanne Denny, of RD Glass, will lead a fused glass taster session.
Kirkgate Chief Executive Emma Heys said: “Our crafts sessions have proved increasingly popular so, building on the success of last year, we’re introducing a bigger and more varied programme with something for everyone, including families.
“It’s a great way to learn a new skill and have fun being creative with hand-on instruction and the freedom to choose what you make.”
During Roxanne’s session, participants will use pre-cut pieces of glass, glass rods and crushed glass in a range of shapes and colours. They will design and produce their own choice of either a dish or wall hanging, which will then be taken to the tutor’s studio to fire.
Roxanne will be on hand to assist, offer tips and to teach about how fused glass is made. All materials and use of equipment are included in the £40 price. Participants’ finished pieces can be collected in two weeks or posted out for a charge of £5.
Emma added: “The session will last for about two hours and we recommend having a look at fused glass images prior to the class to give you an idea of what to expect and some inspiration!”
Other crafts sessions scheduled to take place in coming weeks include a fresh foliage and flower wreath making class (April 5), block printing family workshops (April 12), a Copper Creatures workshop (May 10) and flower pressing (June 21).
