The heartwarming true story of Maurice Flitcroft (Mark Rylance), a humble crane operator from Barrow-in-Furness who managed to gain entry to the qualifying round of the Open Golf Championship, despite never playing a round of golf – drawing the ire of the golfing elite, yet becoming a folk hero in the process.

Maurice Flitcroft was born inManchester in 1929 and,as a child during the war, he was evacuated to Kendal, where he was a pupil atKendal Grammar School.Following his marriage, he and his wife settled inBarrow in Furness, where he worked as a crane operator at theVickers Armstrongshipyard.
