Music Classes @ The Kirkgate for Children and Young People

Is your child interested in music?

Children and young people are invited to join us at the Kirkgate for two musical opportunities.Music Mondaysduring the summer term for different age groups, and a Half-term daily Music Campfor 8-14-year-olds (25-29 May).

Music Monday’s classes are suitable for young people interested in music, from beginners with little experience in playing or singing to more advanced players and singers. There is also a class for 0- to 4-year-olds to enjoy with their adults.

Sessions will be creative, fun, and challenging, using music games, active listening activities, and practical music-making through vocal groups and a wind band/ensemble to develop participants' musical knowledge and experiences.

Young musicians will find this a creative space to make new friends, develop confidence and practice their musical skills.

This low-cost course will run, with any profit reinvested in Kirkgate activities. The course leader is working towards a Master of Music Education and is volunteering to teach these classes to contribute to their course modules. Remissions may be available to ensure that all interested children can attend without cost being a barrier.

Half-term Holiday Music Camp

Monday 25 – Friday 29 May 2026.

Daily 09:00 AM – 5:00 PM, except Weds 09:00 AM – 12:30 PM ONLY.

Half-term course costs £50 per child.

Marion Hinds

A professional music educator with 30 years of experience working with children and adults, Marion holds a music college degree (studying trombone and piano) and has built a career as a music specialist in both secondary and primary schools. She has also served as a Senior Leader in Music Services and Music Education Hubs. Working across Inner London, Northwest Germany, Suffolk and Cumbria, she has led bands, choirs, and county youth ensembles and is passionate about Kodàly-inspired music education for all.

Zoltán Kodálybelieved that “music belongs toeverybody”. He advocated that active participation in making music develops a person on all levels, and that the best way to expand music education is through the natural ways children learn — through singing games, fun, and play —and by using the human voice—the instrument accessible to all.
