Heritage Walk: The Mills of south Cockermouth with Stan Leigh

Cockermouth's development was strongly tied to our mills. There is evidence for over 40 mills on the in the town, stretching back to the Roman period, through the middle ages and a big increase during theindustrial revolution. Join Stan Leigh for a walk to explore some of the mills in the south of the town.

This is one of two walks featuring the mills of Cockermouth, you are welcome to join us for one or both walks.The first walk is on Monday, 14th July and will be exploring the mills in the north of the town.

Stan Leigh is a member of the Cockermouth Heritage Group. Now retired, he leads theCockermouth Striders walking group and was a writer for the Cockermouth Post.

The walk will last about 1.5 hours, and will be on the footpaths, streets and pavements with some steps. The walk will start and end at the Kirkgate Centre, Kirkgate, CA13 9PJ.
