The international opera experience is returning to Cockermouth’s Kirkgate Centre after a Covid-induced absence!
‘As live’ screenings of much-loved operas from prestigious venues around the globe was a popular element of the Kirkgate programme until the pandemic wrought worldwide havoc in 2020.
Australia’s stunning Sydney Harbour location will provide the backdrop for a monthly run of ‘as live’ screenings to be shown at the Kirkgate through the summer.
The programme is:
· Thursday, July 23 – Aida;
· Thursday, August 6 – Turandot;
· Thursday, September 3 – La Traviata.
Kirkgate Chief Executive Emma Heys said: “We’re delighted to be able to bring back the ‘as live’ opera screenings, that proved so popular in the pre-Covid days. They’ll be showing on Thursday evenings to complement our existing weekly film programme.
“It’s fitting that we’re able to relaunch the programme with three of the most beloved operas and there could be no grander setting than Sydney Harbour itself, awash with the light of the city and the Sydney Opera House silhouetted against the setting sun.
“We can promise lavish sets, world class singers, lively choreography, much-loved arias and, for La Traviata, a breath-taking nine metre high, 3.5-ton chandelier covered in 10,000 shimmering Swarovski crystals!”
Tickets for all shows cost £17 for adults and £12 for Under-18s and show time is 7pm (doors open 6pm). Tickets can be secured via the Kirkgate website at Events Archive – Kirkgate Arts and Heritage where details of all upcoming events can also be found.
Alternatively, members of the public can ring the Kirkgate box office on 01900 826448.
