New Sunday Session for music lovers in Cockermouth

Musicians and music fans in the Cockermouth area will soon have another live venue to enjoy.

The town’s Kirkgate Centre is launching a monthly Sunday Session on the heels of its Open Mic nights that used to take place on a Friday.

The first of the new Sunday Sessions takes place on Sunday, September 8 at 2pm (doors open 1.45pm, free entry) with the second scheduled to follow on Sunday, October 13.

Kirkgate General Manager Emma Heys said: “Are you a musician, looking for a place to test out your tunes? Do you sing/play and would love to meet up with other musicians to have a bit of a jam?

“Our open mic night has evolved! We’re starting a new approach, to cater for all, with our Sunday Sessions.

“Come down for a listen, or bring an instrument (including your voice!) and show us what you’ve got!

“We will offer slots for those who would like to perform on their own. However, if you’re up for some jamming along, let us know and maybe we can get the whole place joining in.

“We have a basic PA and a couple of mics ready and waiting for you, but if you prefer acoustic our bar has a wonderful natural reverb.”
