Spaces are filling up fast for the latest in the series of craft workshops organised by Cockermouth’s Kirkgate Centre.
Three sessions will take place in February, focusing on:
· Linocut (Saturday, February 3);
· Willow Weave Bird Feeder (Saturday, February 10);
· Punchneedle (Saturday, February 24).
Although the Linocut session, led by Vega Brennan on February 3, is now sold out, places are still available for the other two … but potential participants are being urged to sign up quickly.
Kirkgate General Manager Emma Heys said: “We are keen to give people the opportunity to explore their own creativity in these hands-on sessions.
“You will learn new skills and have a beautiful hand-made item to take home at the end of the day. ”
Ruth Thompson from Sylvan Skills will lead the Willow Weave Bird Feeder class on February 10 (10.30am, doors open 10am). She’ll guide participants through the techniques involved in creating a bird feeder using willow weaving techniques.
Emma said: “This workshop is aimed at beginners – so don’t worry if you’re new to the craft! Refreshments and a light lunch are provided and the session will run from 10.30am to 2pm.” Participation cost is £50 and tickets are available from Events for 10/02/2024 (ticketsolve.com)
On Saturday, February 24, a workshop will focus on teaching beginners the art of punchneedle, which will include an introduction to materials, yarns and equipment.
Emma Said: “We will be using chunky yarn and monks cloth to create a coaster of 15cm in diameter with a felt backing.
“The pattern used will be of a simple Cumbrian scene of mountains, streams, fields and sky and the participants will be able to choose their own colour scheme.”
Participation cost for the punchneedle class is £35. It will run from 2pm to 5pm (tea and coffee provided) and tickets are available from Events for 24/02/2024 (ticketsolve.com) Full details of all Kirkgate events can be found online at Events Archive – Kirkgate Arts and Heritage
