Kirkgate looking for a helping hand

Cockermouth’s award-winning Kirkgate Arts and Heritage is looking for a volunteer to help out with its marketing and communications activities for one to two days per week.

The organisation, which last year was presented with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest award given to volunteer groups across the UK, wants to ensure that as many people as possible are aware of the wide range of events it hosts.

Kirkgate Arts brings over 400 events per year to the local area (from cinema and live music to workshops and exhibitions) at its Kirkgate Centre base and numerous rural venues through Kirkgate Arts Out West.

Kirkgate Chief Executive Emma Heys said: “We have a very small executive team and we couldn’t achieve a fraction of what we do without the magnificent contribution of our 100-plus volunteers.

“We’re very keen to add to the ranks of our volunteers with someone who has good attention to detail and an interest in graphic design and marketing.

“This unsalaried, voluntary position would suit someone recently retired from a similar role, or someone looking to expand their existing skills while gaining experience of working within a busy arts organisation. It could even be a summer holiday kind of role.”

Main duties would include creating posters, cinema slides and trailers, producing and scheduling social media content and updating listings information.
