Kirkgate Centre
Course Description
A half-day course which will take you through all you need to know about creating and printing a beautiful single-colour linocut. Linocut is a great way of creating striking designs with strong graphic qualities. It is a great way to start learning about printmaking as once you have cut your block, it is easy to print.
Experience Level
No previous experience is needed for this course. Beginners are welcome.
Session outline
Effective linocut design, linocut tools, markmaking and carving your linocut. Registration and preparing your paper. Printing and editioning.
What is included
All basic materials such as white paper, tools and equipment are provided.
Preparing for the course
If you can bring a design, it would maximise your time cutting and printing. You'll be working on a piece of A6 lino (105 x 148 mm), quite small, so don't make your design too complicated. It will need to be reversed (mirror image). Think about areas of solid black or white and the balance between them. Delicate black lines are more difficult to carve. White lines on black are the easiest to carve.
Please bring:
Apron (and wear rough clothes – inks will stain)
Disposable gloves if you want
Your linocut design
Coloured paper if you don’t want to print on white paper
Blank A5 cards if you want to print some cards
A folder to take your work home in – An A3 piece of card folded in half should be fine
