jazz@kirkgate presents The Grant Russell Quartet.

Formed in 2013, the quartet features four of the most dynamic performers in the UK.

Raw uncompromising jazz with an aggressive commitment to improvisation led music within the traditional framework of strong tunes, both original and standard. However, there is nothing standard about this quartet.

Whilst still working from a traditional approach to jazz performance all the performers have worked at the highest international level in a plethora of genres and bring all that experience to every tune.

Tonight, expect some absolute classic jazz tunes from across the ages. With both standards and many unexpected numbers, often arranged by members of the band, it’s set to be a night to remember. Getting these four musicians on the same stage is an absolute treat.

Line Up:

Grant Russell – One of the most sought-after double bass players in the country who was also a founder members of “Go Go Penguin” Rick Halliwell – saxophone – “Stacks of Soul” Paul Kilvington – piano / keys (composer and band leader with Amazonia including collaborations with a diverse array of artists, including Cathy Dennis, Jack Jones, Branford Marsalis, and Bob Mintzer.) Colin Lamont – incredible, in-demand drummer who has recorded and toured with the likes of Mark Lanegan, Connie Lush and performs in jazz trio, The Alchemy Trio
