Poets Out Loud

For writers, readers and listeners from Cumbria and beyond. All are welcome to a most informal evening of poetry at the Kirkgate Centre.

  • It IS for listeners, not just writers. Lovers of poetry and the spoken word who would like to just sit and enjoy the words are most welcome
  • It ISN’T an open mic where you have to stand up in front of an audience and perform, we're just giving you the space to share your poems, or those of others, and listen in a friendly group.
  • It ISN’T a writing group where suggestions or criticisms can be made, this is a space for sharing poems rather than critiquing the poets.
  • It IS an easy, relaxed gathering in the bar.

Poets and audience share the space as the poems work their way around the room. Poetry of all types, styles, levels and topics. If you have never shared your works in public before don’t worry. Once you settle in for the evening you’ll soon see you’re not really in public and you’ll love it.
